Lecluyse and Lakkanen Break 50 Breaststroke National Records

Belgian Fanny Lecluyse and Jenna Laukkanen are going into the women’s 50 breaststroke final ranked first and second. With their times in the semi-finals both women also broke their country’s national records in the event.

Lecluyse broke her own record of 29.76 which she posted in the prelims at the 2014 World Short Course Championships in Doha. She made the semi-finals in Qatar, but did not make the final.

Laukkaanen broke her own record of 30.05 which she set earlier this year at a Finnish Grand Prix event. The Finnish swimmer finished with a time of 29.83 in today’s semi-final. Going into the year Lakkanen’s lifetime best was a 30.52.

Coming into the meet Lakkanen had the second fastest time in the world next to Australian Georgia Bohl’s 30.03. Now Lecluyse sits atop the world rankings followed by Lakkanen.
