The Iowa Central swim team opened up the 2021-22 season with an impressive showing here Saturday vs. Iowa Lakes.
The Tritons won all but three races during the dual with the Lakers.
Nine swims cracked the Top-10 in school history with eight on the women’s side and one on the men’s.
Andrea Gallardo and Maria Goncalves each recorded three of those eight times.
Gallardo is third in the 1,000 free and ninth in both the 500 free and 100 butterfly. Goncalves ranks second in the 100 backstroke, fifth in the 50 back and ninth in the 200 individual medley.
Leticia Dias is eighth in the 100 breaststroke and 10th in the 200 free, while the men’s 200 medley relay of Gavin Hall, Kyle McKenzie, Pedro Aragon and Sam Brennan moved into ninth.
“I’m very proud of the whole team,” Iowa Central head coach Joe Plane said. “This performance bodes well for the rest of our season.
“We swam very well for the first meet of the season and our large freshman class had their first college swim meet, performing very well. We also had many lifetime bests, which is very impressive for the first meet of the year.”
Iowa Central returns to the pool on Saturday, October 16 when they host South Dakota State and Barton.
