Iona Kicks Off Homecoming Weekend With Sweep of Long Island

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona University Men’s and Women’s Swim kicked off the 2024 Homecoming weekend with a pair of wins over the visiting Long Island University Sharks. The Iona women picked up a 165-115 win as the Iona men cruised to a 178-109 victory.

MEET SUMMARY

For the Iona women, the win reversed a 38-point loss at LIU a year ago and raised their record to 2-0. The men go to 1-1 on the season.
 
For the women, Megan Josephs and Emma Todd picked up a pair of golds each with Josephs winning the 100m-Freestyle (54.13) and the 200-Freestyle (1:58.11). Todd took the 1 and 3-meter diving events with scores of 197.48 and 188.10, respectively. Other event winners included Hailey Baker in the 200-Breaststroke (2:30.18); Reagan O’Brien in the 200-Backstroke (2:09.21) and Brennyn Veit in the 200-Breaststroke (2:31.65).
 
The Iona men were led by Graduate student Michael Faughnan who posted a pair of wins in the 100 and 200-Backstroke with respective times of 48.86 and 1:47.67. Junior Dylan Riccio claimed the top spot in both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter events with respective totals of 249.83 and 249.98. Also winning events on the men’s side were Kieran Egan in the 100-Free at 46.97; Noah Giunta in the 200-Butterfly at 1:57.94; Matthew Loftus in the 100-Breaststroke at 57.75 and Harry Platt in the 200-Free at 1:44.75.

UP NEXT

Both teams return to action Saturday at Hynes as the women face off against the MAAC’s newest member, Sacred Heart University and both groups square off against Wagner College. Diving begins at 9:00am and Swimming at 11:30am.
