Illinois To Face Nebraska In Dual Meet Action Saturday

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Illinois swimming and diving team returns to action when it travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, to take on Big Ten rival Nebraska on Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Devaney Center Natatorium. Dual meet action is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT.

LAST TIME OUT

The Illini fell in their opening meet of the season to Purdue (173-122) in West Lafayette, Indiana on Jan. 16. Junior Abigail Cabush and freshman Cara Bognar led the way for Illinois grabbing two first place finishes apiece. Cabush won the 100 and 200 freestyles, while Bognar sat atop the podium in the 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle.

SCOUTING THE HUSKERS

Nebraska enters the weekend coming off a season-opening loss to Iowa (170-128). The Huskers hold the advantage over the Fighting Illini, 8-5, in the all-time series, including five consecutive victories. The two teams last met on Jan. 25, 2020 in Lincoln. Nebraska earned the win in that dual meet by a score of 185-115. Sophomore Athena Salafatinos earned a place in the record book that day with an all-time top 10 fastest individual time in the 100 backstroke.
