First year Illinois State Head Coach Scott Cameron has gained a verbal commitment from freestyler Katie Tillotson. Katie currently swims for Nation’s Capital Swim Club.
Even though Katie’s best times land her just outside of scoring range in several events based on the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference results, it sounds like Katie has the potential to improve and contribute in many ways for the Redbirds..
Katie told SwimSwam:
“I have tried to focus on breaststroke. I have a time of 1:08.27 but my main focus has always been freestyle. Recently I have been doing more distance work in practice and I have tied my life time best (which I went at a meet this last October) in the 500 free from a push, 5:17.36. I have also dropped in practice 35 seconds off my 1000 going from a 11:16.43 to a 10:41.20. So on top of sprint I am also trying to work on my mid-distance and distance skills. My parents did not swim but my dad did attend Illinois State University, so I guess I am a legacy. I grew up in Illinois and all of my Mom’s side of the family lives there and Michigan so it is like I am going home! I chose Illinois State University because of the team, coaches, academics and overall positive environment. I really admire how close the team is and the lively energy they put off during practice! I am so excited to swim for ISU and be a part of the Redbird family!”
Katie’s top times:
50 free- 24.14
100 free- 53.35
200 free- 1:55.52
100 breast- 1:08.27
