Soon after the Olympic Games concluded Brazilian Guilherme Guido decided to make a change in careers. Guido, who represented Brazil at both the 2008 and 2016 Olympics, will be running for city council in his hometown of Limeira.

He announced that he would be running for office on his Instagram account on August 24th. Guido stated that after being a professional athlete for the past 15 years that he wanted to give back to the community that supported him during that time. He has stated that his primary goal is to improve the lives of the citizens of Limeira through sport.

Despite being on the campaign trail last week Guido helped lead the Pinheiros to their 12th Jose Finkel Trophy title by winning both the 50 and 100 backstroke at the event. Guido was originally on the Brazilian roster for the upcoming Raia Rapida, but because of his increased responsibilities in Limeira Henrique Rodrigues has taken his spot on the team.
Limeira is a city of approximately 300,000 that is located in the state of São Paulo and will have their municipal elections on October 2nd.
