THE FLATS – Christian Ferraro has been named the ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday.
At the GT Invite from Nov. 18-20, Ferraro swam in the 200 fly, 100 fly, 50 free, 200 free relay and 400 medley relay. His prelims time in the 200 fly (1:40.33) was good for best in the nation and is the only NCAA A cut in the event so far this season. With his time in the 200 fly, Ferraro eclipsed his own program record by 0.31 seconds.
Ferraro took home the gold in the 200 fly. His time in the finals of the 200 fly (1:40.97) was 2.97 seconds faster than the second place swimmer.
There was emphasis on the gold portion of the White and Gold moniker as Ferraro also secured the top spot in 100 fly (45.61). Ferraro was trailing two swimmers going in to the last 25 yards of the event before turning on the boosters to outlast his competition. Ferraro’s 100 fly time is good for an NCAA B cut.
The last individual event for Ferraro at the GT Invite was the 50 free. Ferraro finished eighth in the event but turned in an NCAA B cut during the prelims with a time of 19.64.
Ferraro competed in two relays for the Jackets. He led off the 200 free relay with a time of 19.70. Ferraro also swam the fly leg of the 400 medley relay. His split of 44.60 in the 100 fly would be good for the best time in the nation if it were an official time.
The Yellow Jackets return to McAuley Aquatic Center on Dec. 18 when they welcome Northwestern and Miami to the pool. Admission to the meet is free.
