The ever-growing Georgia Southern University class of 2020, which so far consists of Anna Moers, Ashley Kubel, Elizabeth Chemey, Madison Sarantakos, Markie Duffy, and Riha Moss, can add a new name to the mix: Bri Mazzei verbally committed to the Eagles on Halloween.

“I love Georgia Southern because of the beautiful campus, family-like team, academic opportunities, and the friendly students and faculty. Everything about the school was perfect for me and I am super excited to go there in the fall.”

Mazzei swims for Palmetto Aquatics in Columbia, South Carolina, and Lexington High School. At the 2014 SCHSL 4A Championships, she placed 25th in the 200 IM and 19th in the 100 fly, and swam leadoff leg on Lexington’s 400 free relay.

After 9 years in the pool she had a breakthrough summer, dropping 45 seconds in the 1500, 6 in the 200 free, and 3 in the 100 fly. She has excelled primarily in distance free and butterfly events, and placed in the top 10 in six of the seven events she swam at this summer’s South Carolina Long Course State Championships (she competed in the 200/400/800/1500m freestyles and 100/200 fly and 400 IM).

Her times include:

  SCY LCM
1650/1500 18:05.34 18:19.93
1000/800 10:47.85 9:38.71

Mazzei shared with SwimSwam, “I hope to continue to improve this short course season and as I swim for GSU.”
