Florida State Swimming & Diving Heads To Nike Invitational

Members of the Florida State swimming and diving teams will compete in the Janis Hape Dowd Carolina College Nike Invitational starting on Friday. The three-day meet will be co-hosted by Duke and North Carolina and will run from Feb. 3-5.

Friday and Sunday’s competitions will be held at the Koury Natatorium, which is located on the campus of North Carolina, while Saturday’s events will take place at Duke’s Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion.

“We sent a small squad of athletes to this invite,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We wanted to see some more swims out of this group and this is the perfect opportunity for them to step up and contribute.”

In addition to (No. 21/RV), FSU this weekend’s meet will field 11 teams including (No.6/19) Florida, (No. 1/7) NC State, James Madison, Old Dominion, South Carolina, Towson, UNC-Wilmington, William & Mary in addition to the hosts (No. 24/18) Duke and (No. 23) North Carolina.

The first Nike Cup was held in 1986 and historically takes place in November, however it was moved to February this season to accommodate various meet schedules.

Friday’s events will include the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free in addition to the 200 free and 400 free relays. The top 24 individuals will advance to finals.

The Seminoles are coming off a pair of wins over Georgia Tech and SCAD, as the women’s team finished the year 6-2 (2-0 ACC) while the men were 4-2, (2-0 ACC).
