Florida 3A Sprint Champ Wesley Kephart (2020) Verbally Commits to Pitt

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Wesley Kephart from Venice, Florida has verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh for 2020-21. The Venice High School junior was a FHSAA state champion in the 50 freestyle this year.

“I am so proud and excited to announce my commitment to the University of Pittsburgh. I chose Pitt because it felt like home from the moment I stepped onto campus. I instantly fell in love with the coaches, the team, the campus and the city. Pitt is somewhere where I can achieve all of my goals, both academically and athletically. I cannot wait to be a Pitt Panther!!! Hail to Pitt!!! #H2P”

Kephart swims for his father Cory Kephart and Bruce Patmos at the SKY Family YMCA and specializes mainly in sprint freestyle. Since the start of his junior year of high school he has improved his lifetime bests in the 50/100/200/500/1000/1650 free, 100/200 back, 100 breast, 100/200 fly, and 200/400 IM.

Kephart won the 50 free with 20.74 at the FHSAA 3A State Championships in November. He also swam a leg on the winning 400 free relay (46.52), placed fourth in the 100 free (45.97), and anchored the 4th-place 200 medley relay (20.23). As a sophomore, Venice competed at the 4A meet and he swam the 100 free (3rd) and the 200 free (14th). In club swimming, Kephart is a Winter Juniors-or-better qualifier in the 50/100/200 free. He competed at Winter Juniors East in December, swimming the 50/100/200 free and 100 back. He won the 50/100 free and was runner-up in the 200 free at Florida Swimming Senior Short Course Championships at the beginning of March. He then went on to compete at YMCA National Short Course Championships in the 50/100/200 free and 100 fly and finaled in all four events.

Kephart’s times would have put him among Pitt’s top-8 in the 50/100/200 free this year. He will overlap one year with Blaise Vera, Armin Remenyi, Ellis Cannon, and Alec Hoch.
