Day five finals of the 2025 Aquatics GB Championships unfolded tonight with multiple swimmers adding their names to the nation’s roster for this summer’s World Championships.
Although no one in the men’s 200m breaststroke made the grade, a new British Age Record was established during the race to increase enthusiasm for the nation’s rising stars.
When the dust settled from this evening’s final, Greg Butler came out on top with a gold medal-worthy swim of 2:10.17.
That represented a new personal best by .31 but still fell short of the Aquatics GB-mandated qualification time of 2:09.55 needed to qualify for Singapore.
Runner-up status went to 17-year-old Filip Nowacki who registered a time of 2:11.09, a new lifetime best and British Age Record en route to silver.
Millfield’s Nowacki opened in 1:03.52 and closed in 1:07.57 to produce a new lifetime best, overtaking his previous career-quickest outing of 2:12.74.
Additionally, the rising teen’s mark destroyed the previous British Age Record for 17-year-olds, a time of 2:12.48 Kyle Booth put on the books in 2019.
A fine swim, one of many in this age group this week. We’ve had 17yo boys age records in 50fr, 100fr, 50 fl, 100fl, 50br, 100br and 200br in 2025. Dean Fearn is just .4 outside the 100bk mark too, with the rest of the year to chase it (ages up 2026).
