Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Abigail DiGregorio has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Fairfield University this upcoming fall. DiGregorio is currently wrapping up her senior year at Central Bucks East High School in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Fairfield University! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for their endless support! Go Stags! “
DiGregorio, who swims year-round with the Central Bucks Swim Team, is a sprint freestyle and backstroke specialist. This past summer, she set a slew of personal best times at the Middle Atlantic Championships in July. She earned her highest finish in the 100m backstroke with a best time of 1:07.99 in prelims. She also advanced to finals in the 100m free, where she swam a best time of 1:01.09 to place 29th.
She most recently competed at the 2023 Pennsylvania High School State Championship, where she individually raced in the 100 backstroke. She took 19th place overall with a 58.40, which is just shy of the best time she had set at the District meet just a few weeks prior.
Top SCY Times:
- 50 free – 24.87
- 100 free – 53.19
- 100 back – 58.24
- 200 back – 2:08.31
Fairfield recently captured the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) title, where they edged runner-up Niagara by just four points. The Stags scored 20 points in the 100 backstroke and 24 points in the 100 freestyle, meaning they were relatively weaker events overall for the team.
Serafina Viola led the way in the 100 backstroke with 6th-place finish at conference. She logged a 57.36 in finals, and was the only Fairfield swimmer in the top-8. Holly Rahurahu competed in the B-final and earned 10th with a 58.77. In the 100 freestyle, Lily Barker was the team’s top finisher at 6th (52.69), while Sydney Scalise and Olivia Thompson earned 11th (52.59) and 12th (52.71) in the B-final.
All of the athletes who scored in those two events will return next season, giving DiGregorio a chance to add depth and strength to these events at the conference level. Her best times currently project to make the A-final in the 100 back and the B-final in the 100 free, meaning she should make an immediate impact when she arrives in Connecticut.
DiGregorio is the only public swimming commitment for the Stags’ class of 2027. She joins Kate Wittenauer, a diver from Connecticut.
