Event Program
Event 50, 100 and 200 meter events will all be swum as prelim, semi-final and final. The semi-final and final of the 50 events will be swum on the same evening.
Saturday’s Events:
- Men’s 50 freestyle
- Women’s 50 butterfly
- Men’s 400 IM
- Women’s 4 x 200 freestyle relay
- Men’s 4 x 100 medley relay
The final day of the swimming events at the European Games in Baku started off with the men’s 50 freestyle. Ziv Kalontarov of Israel was the top qualifier recording a time of 22.62. He was followed by Turkish swimmer Huseyin Emre Sakci who posted a 22.81 and Italian Giovanni Izzo who finished in a time of 22.95.
Russian Polina Egorova will go for her fifth gold medal in the women’s 50 butterfly this evening. Egorova has already won the 100 butterfly and the 200 backstroke as well as taking gold as part of the Russian women’s 4 x 100 freestyle and medley relays. Egorova was the top qualifier in the women’s 50 butterfly posting a time of 27.38.
Josien Wijkhuijs of the Netherlands had the second fastest qualifying time of 27.45 followed by German Jana Zinnecker who finished in a time of 27.48.
The top three qualifiers in the men’s 400 IM will be swimming their first final of the competition. Russian Nikolay Sokolov was the top qualifier posting a time of 4:24.22 followed by teammate Igor Balyberdin who recorded a 4:24.53. Karol Zbutowicz of Poland qualified third with a time of 4:24.72.
