CHARLOTTE, N.C. – It was another strong day of swimming on Friday at the 2020 Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.
It’s extremely close in the race for the team titles after the first two days of the championships. Barton (392) narrowly leads Emmanuel (386) after two days in the women’s championship, while Emmanuel (405) leads Barton (372.50) after two days in the men’s championship.
For the second straight day, championships record after record was broken at the Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Emmanuel secured a new conference championships record with a time of 1:21.50. In the women’s 400 individual medley, Chowan’s Zorey Sargent secured a new Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships record with a time of 4:34.81.
In the men’s 100 yard butterfly, Emmanuel’s Igor Bretas Dantas netted the new championships record with a time of 48.16. In the women’s 200 yard freestyle, Emmanuel’s Karolina Ostojska earned the new championships record with a time of 1:51.70. Emmanuel’s Alex Sobers collected the new top mark in championships history in the men’s 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:34.91.
The 2020 Conference Carolinas Men’s and Women’s Swimming Championships are being held in conjunction with the 2020 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming Championships.
On Saturday, Feb. 15, the third day of the championships will feature the 500 freestyle, the 100 backstroke, the 100 breaststroke, the 200 butterfly and the 800 freestyle relay.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men’s and women’s swimming teams extended their respective leads after day two of the Bluegrass Mountain Championships from the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.
On the women’s side, Queens has a 177.5-point lead over second place Wingate and the men lead by a 50-point margin over second place Wingate. In total, the Royals won nine of the 10 events, bringing their championship total to 16 victories over the course of two days.
The women’s 200-Yard Freestyle Relay team of Danielle Melilli, Hannah Foster, Courtney Stewart, and Lexie Baker turned in a winning time of 1:31.18 to take the top spot.
Junior Francesca Bains began the individual portion of the evening with a five-second margin of victory in the 400-Yard I.M., while seniors Polina Lapshina and Georgia DaCruz finished 1-2, respectively, in the 100-Yard Butterfly.
Following Baker’s victory in the 200-Yard Freestyle, the 400-Yard Medley Relay team of Rachel Massaro, Mikaela Fullerton, DaCruz, and Lapshina closed the night win a dominant first place finish.
The men’s 200-Yard Freestyle Relay team of Skyler Cook-Weeks, Dmytro Sydorchenko, Alex Kunert, and Ruben Stam earned a narrow win by less than a second over Carson-Newman University.
Sophomore Jan Delkeskamp won the 400-Yard I.M. with a time of 3:49.18 before Kunert (1:25.59) and Cook-Weeks (1:38.13) took the top two spots in the 200-Yard Freestyle.
Day two came to an end with the team of Finn Howard, Delkeskamp, Ruben Stam, and Sydorchenko taking first place in the 400-Yard Medley Relay.
Day three begins tomorrow with prelims at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 5 p.m.
