Eetu Piiroinen wins twice on opening day of Finnish Nationals

Eetu Piiroinen picked up a pair of wins to kick off the 5-day Finnish National Championships in Vaasa Wednesday.

The freestyler topped both the 200 and 800 frees on opening day to sweep both men’s finals.

Piiroinen kicked off the meet with a 1:52.54 win in the 200 free, and then came back to win the final individual event with an 8:12.22 in the 800.

On the women’s side, Vilma Ruotsalainen won the 400 IM, going 4:56.74, while Nea Norismaa took the 200 fly in 2:17.74.

A number of semifinals went off on the first day, highlighted by a great battle in the 50 breast between Veera Kivirinta (31.57 in semis) and Jenna Laukkanen (31.71).
