STOCKTON, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving teams each improved to 2-0, with a pair of dual meet victories over host University of the Pacific at the Douglass M. Eberhardt Aquatic Center, Saturday afternoon. Vili Sivec and Mikayla Popham each grabbed three individual wins to lead their respective teams. The Roadrunner men bested the Tigers 167-127, while the women posted a 161-119 victory.

• “Vili and Mikayla were on fire today, they each had three insane swims and three well-earned wins! They led the charge in an exciting meet that saw us win the swimming portion of the meet head to head. Pacific doesn’t have divers, and our diving scores counted – but we would have won without them just the same.”
• “In addition to Vili, Tim Engle stepped up big for the men, while Arthur Schneider, Antonio Milin, Jacob Folsom and Yigit Saglam all continued to impress by dominating their races.”

Women’s Top Performances:
• Mikayla Popham won three separate 200 yard races, grabbing victory in the 200 Freestyle (1:51.51), the 200 Backstroke (2:03.73) and the 200 IM (2:06.15).
• Chelaine Van der Westhuizen won both Breaststroke events swimming a 1:04.02 in the 100 yard race and finishing just a second off of her personal best in the 200 Breaststroke at 2:17.73.
• Jessica Franco won the 100 Backstroke finishing in 59.15, and the 500 Freestyle in a time of 5:07.61.
• Kylie Ney finished first in the 1000 Freestyle posting a time of 10:36.62, while Lorena Jerebic took first in the 200 Butterfly (2:06.16).
• Hannah Marsh was second in the 1000 Freestyle and placed fourth in the 200 and 500 Freestyles.
Men’s Top Performances:
• Vili Sivec posted wins in the 100 Butterfly (48.98), the 200 Butterfly (1:48.53) and the 100 Freestyle (45.13).
• Arthur Schneider won the men’s 1000 Freestyle (9:50.60) and the 500 Freestyle (4:41.09), while also placed third in the 200 Freestyle.
• Jacob Folsom was second in the 200 Freestyle and the 200 IM, while Antonio Milin was the runner-up in each Breaststroke event.
• Tim Engle swam the 50 Free (21.11), 100 Free (46.93) and the 100 Fly (51.70) in today’s meet, posting times faster than his best efforts at last season’s conference meet.
• Yigit Saglam posted a pair of top-three finishes.

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific men’s and women’s swim teams competed against strong CSU Bakersfield opponents on Saturday afternoon.
Despite competitive showings throughout the meet, the Tigers came up short against the Roadrunners, scoring 119-126 on the women’s side and 127-167 on the men’s side.
“I’m bummed that we lost, but by far, this is the strongest we have been as a team,” said Head Coach Katelyne Herrington. “This is the first time we’ve come together and truly feel what it means to race.”
The men’s team won seven races, with two dual winners. Freshman Bridger Sink dominated the breast competition, winning first in the 100 and 200 races, and junior Alex Kurotori took first in both the 200 free and 200 back.
Sophomore Mitchell Hopper placed first in the 50 free and missed first in the 100 free by three-fourths of a second, claiming a close second place.
Aidan Scott performed strongly in the backstroke competition, taking first in the 100 and second in the 200.
Senior Jonathan Tan wrapped up the Tigers’ showing with a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley.
“It feels great to get these points for the team,” said Kurotori. “I always try to push my teammates in practice or at meets, so it was nice to see the team come together and swim fast today. I was excited to win two races, especially at our home pool against a formidable team like Bakersfield. We have our eyes on them for conference, and I’m excited to race them again with a fully healthy squad.”
From the women’s team, sophomore Alexia Ferguson placed first in the 50 free, and sophomore Paige Sondgeroth took first in the 100 free to lead the Tigers.
Junior Caitlin Tan took first in the 100 fly, and the women’s team finished with first and second-place finishes in the 400 free relay.
The Tigers travel to Utah Tech’s Winter Invite November 17-19. Herrington said she looks forward to seeing how their training and competitive edge will help them compete. “We will bring something special in the next week and a half to Utah,” she said.
