Cooper Robinson Among Finalists for TCU Fan Site’s “Athlete of the Year”

TCU senior swimmer Cooper Robinson has been nominated for the TCU Athlete of the Year award by “Frogsowar.com,” a subsidiary of the SB Nation network. The winner will be decided by a fan vote which is currently running on TCU’s website.

Robinson was nominated alongside two TCU football players (Paul Dawson and Trevone Boykin) as well as TCU baseball player Brandon Finnegan.

Robinson currently sits 3rd among the four nominees, but with only 362 votes cast in total thus far, there’s still time before Monday’s announcement of the winner for the vote to be swung.

Robinson’s year included being named the swim team’s MVP and qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

His nomination is noteworthy in itself after a year that were among the best in history for TCU football and baseball.

Boykin, the current leader in the vote, led the program to a 12-1 overall record and a co-Big 12 Championship in the 2014 season. By only the slimmest of margins, TCU just missed inclusion in the inaugural college football playoff, and Boykin was a big part of that – breaking TCU records in passing yards (3,901), passing touchdowns (33), total yards (4,608), and total touchdowns (41).

The football team had another representative on the list: linebacker Paul Dawson, who was named an AP First Team All-American.

Former TCU baseball player Brandon Finnegan had maybe one of the best baseball years in NCAA history, and accomplished something nobody else has ever done. First, he led TCU to their second College World Series appearance in four years, and then he played a major role for the Kansas City Royals and pitched in the Major League Baseball World Series. He became the only player to ever play in both the College and Major League Baseball World Series in the same year.

In the preliminary round, Robinson received 156 votes, for 19% of the total.

Current standings in finals:

  • Trevone Boykin (football) – 135 votes/37%
  • Brandon Finnegan (baseball) – 100 votes/28%
  • Cooper Robinson (swimming) – 67 votes/19%
  • Paul Dawson (football) – 60 votes/17%
