Cleveland State Looks To Continue Success At Ohio State

The Cleveland State swimming and diving team heads to Columbus, Ohio on Thursday (Nov. 12) to compete in its lone meet of the week. The men and the women will both participate in a dual meet format against Ohio State at 6:00 p.m.

After dropping their opening meet of the season, the men have won three-straight meets vs. Xavier, Gannon and St. Bonaventure (3-1 overall). With the times to prove it, the men have consistently gotten better each week. After last week’s performance, head coach Paul Graham touched on the fact that he believed the Vikings have bought into their plan to build brick-by-brick each day, each week.

Szymon Golczyk and Danny Roberts earned Horizon League swimmer and diver of the week, respectively, for their work against St. Bonaventure. Golczyk won four separate events (two relays, two individual races) vs. SBU, claiming ownership to three times that clocked in the top-25 of the country. Roberts’ diver of the week honors were his second-straight for the season after grabbing scores over 300 in the 1M and 3M dives. The men finished first in 12 of the 16 events vs. SBU.

For the women, they too have found more success as of late. Though their record may not reflect it (2-5 overall), two of their losses came at the expense of undefeated Marshall University and another in a meet that was decided by less than 10 points. Their times have gotten faster, their meets closer. Like the men, the women topped St. Bonaventure in a fairly convincing manner.

Anna Evans, Molly McNamara and Michaela Bargardi all won individual events over the weekend for the women while Ashleigh Bennett, Evans,Claudia Zido and Jamie Vandewerker took part in the winning 200 Free relay team. Tori Taffner and Samantha Sposet both had impressive weekends on the dive board.

The meet at Ohio State will be the Vikings’ last opportunity for live competition until next weekend when they host the fourth-annual CSU Magnus Cup (Nov. 20-22), an event that will feature the men vying to defend their title from a season ago.
