Claudia “CJ” Smith will swim for Chapman University beginning this fall. Smith recently graduated from Fox Chapel Area High School and was a multi-sport athlete, also competing in track and lacrosse. Smith’s club team is the Fox Chapel Killer Whales, and she is the senior athlete representative in her LSC.

At the 2024 Pennsylvania District 7 Championships, Smith placed 9th in the 200 IM (2:11.57) and 13th in the 100 breast (1:08.39) to help Fox Chapel to a runner up finish. At the conclusion of last year’s long course season, Smith competed at the AMS Age Group Championships (LCM). There, she took 12th in the 200 IM (2:37.67) and 11th in the 200 breast (2:59.72), the former of which was a personal best. She additionally swam a 1:05.57 100 free and 2:22.90 200 free.

Chapman University is a DIII School and a part of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). At the 2024 SCIAC Championships, the Chapman women finished 3rd out of 9 total teams. Smith will look to make a quick impact on Chapman, as in order to make it back for a night swim at the 2024 SCIAC Championships, it took times of 1:09.04/2:31.73 in the 100/200 breast and 2:15.00/5:04.88 in the 200/400 IM.
Smith will join a well rounded class of Alyssa Kooy (sprint free), Jena Kimborowicz (distance free), and Cora Buelow (back/free) in Chapman’s class of 2028.
