Claire Curzan Reflects on Last 2 Years: “My journey since then has not been linear”

2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships

After placing 2nd in the 50 free and then contributing to UVA’s winning 200 free relay, Olympian Claire Curzan reflected on her last two years since deciding to leave Stanford after her freshman season. The NCAA Champion said her journey has not been linear or even what she wanted, but she’s grateful for everything that she’s been through since.

We also hear from Curzan’s free relay teammates Anna Moesch and Maxine Parker on their thoughts on Virginia’s success.

She’s putting up a brave face but last year Todd broke her down too much in the weight room to train properly, had her shipped off to the Mickey Mouse World Champions in the middle of base building training block, messed up her taper at Olympic Trials resulting in multiple shockingly poor swims, and then this fall told her to stop moping and get over it… 🤭

Hi Maureen, it’s me, Linda Johnson, the prettier Johnson sister. Mom still doesn’t want to talk to you and Dad thinks you stink

would love to see her take on the missy franklin schedule at trials this year — 100/200 back & 100/200 free!

She’s now getting the results she deserves! But I can’t help but wonder if she would have made the Olympic team if she had stayed at Stanford…but hindsight is 20/20.

You’ve already asked this, and it’s impossible to know. I get the feeling from listening to a lot of her interviews and podcasts over the years that the Stanford vibe was decidedly not for her. She’s with a team where she’s now consistently PBing and seems like she’s really happy. Just leave it at that.

So odd. UVA was obviously the spot for her.

You know I thought when she was getting recruited she would end up at NC State because of proximity to home and their sprint success, now wouldn’t that have been something
