| With six gold medals out of eight finals, China confirmed its supremacy in the second leg of the FINA/NVC Diving World Series, held in Dubai (UAE) on March 20-22, 2014. The only non-Chinese victories went to Stephan Feck/Patrick Hausding (GER) in the men’s 3m springboard synchro, and to Victor Minibaev, from Russia, in the men’s 10m platform.The latter was probably the most thrilling final of the three-day competition in Dubai, with Minibaev taking the maximum advantage of Qiu Bo’s (CHN) huge mistake in the fifth dive. The Russian’s win is only the third victory of a non-Chinese diver in this event in the history of the World Series. Tom Daley (GBR) had triumphed twice in the past, but in the absence of competitors from China. The British star (bronze medallist in the first leg of 2014 in Beijing) was fourth this time in Dubai, behind 2012 Olympic champion David Boudia (USA). The second gold escaping to China was in the men’s 3m springboard synchro, with Germany’s Stephan Feck and Patrick Hausding beating their Asian challengers by almost 9 points. At home, in Beijing, China had also lost this title, but for Russia. In the remaining men’s events, no surprises, with the gold and silver going to China in the 3m individual (He Chong was again the winner, after his success in Beijing), while Illya Kvasha (UKR) also maintained his third position from the first leg of the series. Tania Cagnotto, from Italy, got her first 2014 World Series medals, with bronze in the 3m, both individual and synchro, while Roseline Filion, from Canada, was also very consistent in the 10m platform (third place in individual and synchro). Malaysia (Pandelela Rinong Pamg got two silver in 10m) and Mexico completed the list of countries with podium presences in the women’s events.
