Carthage Director of Athletics Robert Bonn has named Seth Weidmann head men’s swimming coach. Weidmann replaces Greg Earhart, who resigned earlier to become the associate head coach for both men’s and women’s swimming at Arizona State University.
Weidmann served as the head senior coach for the Flying Fish Swim Team and YWCA Evanston/North Shore for nine years from 2005 to 2014, including 2009 when the Flying Fish senior boys won an Illinois state title. Prior to that, he was the assistant aquatics director/outreach manager for the Evanston/North Shore YWCA and an assistant coach at Gustavus Adolphus College in 2004-05.
A native of Skokie, Ill., Weidmann attended Gustavus Adolphus, where he graduated in 2005 with a bachelor’s in communication studies. Weidmann was a three-time College Swimming Coaches Association of America All-American and a three-time Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titlist.
As an active member of both USA Swimming and Illinois Swimming, Weidmann served as head coach for Team Illinois at a 2013 USA Swimming Central Zone meet and is a member of Illinois Swimming’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
“Seth has been successful at every level of competitive swimming,” said Bonn, “both as an athlete and as a coach. I have every confidence that his exceptional skill set will continue and enhance our very successful men’s swimming program.”
“I’m thrilled to take on this new opportunity and challenge at such an exceptional institution,” says Weidmann. “It’s a distinct privilege to take over the helm from Greg Earhart and to be part of an outstanding athletic department. My goal for the men’s team is to build on the special tradition we have here and continue a program that the entire Carthage community can be proud of, especially the swimmers, alumni and parents. A big part of that includes guiding the program from a preeminent CCIW and Midwestern team to a preeminent national team.”
