Gunnar Van Gent, a senior at West Ranch High School in Santa Clarita, has committed to swim for University of Connecticut starting with the 2015-16 season.
“I chose UCONN because I wanted to get a new experience by going out east, and UCONN is a great school out there with a great atmosphere. When I was there for my trip the coaches impressed me with their approach to training and the students and athletes seemed like great people to swim and study alongside.”
Van Gent is a member of Canyons Aquatic Club, where he has achieved national time standards in the 100 and 200 backstrokes. His best times are:
Event | SCY | LCM |
100 back | 51.48 | 58.99 |
200 back | 1:49.92 | 2:08.18 |
100 fly | 51.84 | 59.34 |
200 IM | 1:54.97 | 2:15.66 |
Van Gent will join Andrew Proper (breast/free) and Luke Martin (sprint free/fly) in the Huskies’ class of 2019.
