Day 3 are gone and went in the CAA. The line up for the night consisted of the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 400 medley relay and women’s 1m diving.
While the women of Towson seem to have made a comfortable lead against James Madison, the men’s meet seems to be a different story. Both UNC-Wilmington and William & Mary are in the hunt, and have plenty of swimmers in the water tonight to make that team race a bit more interesting.
400 IM
James Madison’s Kelsey Holmgaard was able to top a Townson dominated heat in the 400 IM. She finished well ahead at 4:15.90, nearly four seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Seana Acker.
Acker lead a 2-3-4-5 finish for Towson. She finished at 4:19.51, while Christine Hammond rounded out the top three with a time of 4:19.75.
William and Mary went 1-2 in the men’s event with Charley Bowles and Jeremy O’Donnell. There were just a tenth apart with 3:54.80 and 3:54.90.
100 Butterfly
Towson’s Victoria Oslund finished ahead of William and Mary’s duo for the win. Her final time was 53.57. Megan Howard and Melanie Rowland went 2-3 for William & Mary with final times of 54.34 and 54.40.
William and Mary had another win on the men’s side, with Justin Barden claiming the win in 47.83. UNC-Wilmington Valtte Halonen was second, 48.04, and Kyle Lukens of Dexel finishing third, 48.12.
200 Freestyle
Towson led a 1-2-3 sweep in this event, which is no surprise if you saw their 500 freestyle finishes yesterday. Kaitlin Burke broke her own Meet Record from last season with a new time of 1:46.46.
Her teammates Charlotte Holz and Melanie Rowland were second and third at 1:48.40 and 1:48.48.
Continuing the streak, William and Mary had another win in the men’s event with Billy Russell finishing in 1:36.75. He was just ahead of two UNC-Wilmington swimmers; Gabe Thran and Alex Labonge were second and third, 1:37.48 and 1:38.08.
100 Breaststroke
James Madison had another title with Shannon Dubay winning in 1:00.25 – the only 1:00 performance of the night. Jenna Van Camp of Towson was second, 1:01.61.
Just one hundredth behind, Jenson Engen was third for UNC-Wilmington, 1:01.62, for third.
Making it four-for-four in event wins, Andrew Strait of William and Mary won in 54.32. His teammate Cris Dong was third, 55.73.
Towson’s Jeremy Lui was second, 55.45.
100 Backstroke
Things got a bit shaken up as College of Charleston had win, outside Towson or JMU, for the night. Sarah Boyle won the event in 54.16. She was just ahead of UNC-Wilmington’s Hannah Stephensen, 54.29.
Anna Schegoleva got Northeastern on the podium with a third place finish of 54.64.
Michael Baric, UNCW, and Will Manion, W&M, tied for the win the men’s event at 48.00. Manion’s teammate Justin Barden was third, less than a tenth behind, at 48.09.
400 Medley Relay
It was a tight battle between James Madison and Towson. The two were fairly even at the 300 mark, less than .2 separated the teams. James Madison held on to the marginal lead for the win at 3:40.29.
The relay was made up of Kacy Edsall, 55.60, Shannon Dubay, 1:01.42, Kelsey Holmgaard, 54.01, and Susanne Gingher, 49.26.
Towson’s foursome of Courtney Sepich, 56.05, Jenna Van Camp, 1:01.63, Victoria Oslund, 53.52, and Kaitlin Burke, 49.32, was second at 3:40.52.
William & Mary won the event for the men with Will Manion, 49.08, Andrew Strait, 54.30, Justin Barden, 47.29, and Billy Russell, 43.45. Their final time was 3:14.12.
