Mikayla Tseng of Saint Teresa High School and Santa Clara Swim Club has announced her verbal intent to swim for Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California beginning in the fall of 2019. A butterfly/IM swimmer, Tseng has career-best times in the butterfly events that would have qualified her in the top 8 at the 2019 Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championship meet.
“I chose LMU simply because it was the perfect fit for me. The beautiful area and the amazing team made me feel like I was at home. LMU encompasses a community of students who strive for excellence. I admire the developmental program that LMU offers for their swimmers. It gives student athletes the opportunity to be well rounded in and out the pool. I cannot wait to represent the Lions at the collegiate level. GO LIONS!!!”
At the 2018 Far Western Long Course Championships, Tseng took home a trio of 7th place finishes in the 200 and 400-meter freestyles and 200-meter butterfly (2:13.32/4:44.60/2:38.23 respectively). At the Short Course version of the meet in 2019, Tseng took 9th place in the 100-yard butterfly (59.39) and 11th place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.88)
Best Times in Yards:
- 100 fly – 57.32
- 200 fly – 2:06.60
- 200 IM – 2:11.86
- 400 IM – 4:44.91
Tseng will be able to make an immediate impact for the Lions when she arrives in the fall; her career-best butterfly times would be the fastest times on the 2018-2019 team. So far Loyola Marymount has only received the one verbal commitment for their class of 2023.
