TOLEDO, Ohio – The University at Buffalo swimming and diving team participated in a two-day tri-meet, competing at Bowling Green on Friday and Toledo on Saturday. Buffalo dominated day two of the meet, earning wins over both Bowling Green and Toledo.
The Bulls defeated the Falcons, 225-118, and the Rockets, 206-147. In addition to Buffalo’s pair of victories, the Bulls broke three pool records at Toledo, in the 400-yard medley relay (3:44.23), 100-yard backstroke (53.81) and 200-yard freestyle (1:49.64).
FRIDAY
Freshman Isabella Forsman opened the tri-meet by winning two events at Bowling Green. Forsman won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.12. The freshman doubled back to take the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.41.
Mia Naccarella won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.24. Abigail Malmstrom took fourth (2:05.67) to give the Bulls two of the top four spots in the event.
Elise McCaul carried her momentum from the Bulls’ last meet, finishing second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 10:25.60. McCaul was just shy of her personal record in the event (10:24.91). Ava Cunningham took fourth (10:33.21) and Karen Austin finished sixth (10:35.63) to have the Bulls take three of the top six spots. Austin’s time was a season-best.
The Bulls opened the night with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Naccarella, Grace Rider, Nicole Aguilar and Jillian Strine finished the event in 1:43.48. The Buffalo swimmers closed out the night with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle. The Bulls’ team of Strine, Naccarella, Amanda Jurgelon and Forsman finished the event in 3:28.99.
Marialis Kwak continued her undefeated streak in the diving well with a win in the three-meter and a score of 314.80. The win was the senior diver’s 14th of the season.
The Buffalo divers took six of the top eight spots in the three-meter. Behind Kwak’s first-place finish, Kaylee Donovan took second with a score of 297.35, just three points shy of her personal record that ranks ninth all-time in UB indoor history. Sophie Meuwissen finished third with a score of 278.90, trailing her personal best score of 281.18 set earlier this season. Mallory Hanna earned sixth (252.95), Presley Dorsett placed seventh (251.50) and Maggie Meyers took eighth (241.00).

SATURDAY
Buffalo won eight of the nine events on Saturday, dominating the event leaderboards to earn points over both the Falcons and Rockets.
The Bulls opened Saturday by winning the 400-yard medley relay, breaking Toledo’s pool record with a time of 3:44.23. Naccarella broke the pool record in the 100-yard backstroke too, leading off the medley relay, with a time of 53.81. The opening event set the tone for what was to come on day two, as Naccarella later won the 100-yard backstroke (53.93) and set another pool record in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.64). Abbey Gardner trailed Naccarella to take second in the freestyle event with a time of 1:50.78, a season-best time for the sophomore. Vivian Roy (2nd, 55.85) and Malmstrom (5th, 57.10) trailed in the 100-yard backstroke to give the Bulls three of the top five spots. Malmstrom’s time was a season-best.
In the first individual event the Bulls took the top three spots in the 500-yard freestyle to open the individual events. Cunningham won the event (4:58.38), as Forsman posted a season-best time in second (5:00.12) and McCaul finished third (5:01.02).
Rider (1st, 1:03.03) and Ava Pauly (2nd, 1:04.54) took the top two spots in the 100-yard breaststroke to continue the Bulls momentum. Rider was just under a second shy of her personal record that ranks fourth all-time in program history (1:02.30). Pauly missed her personal record (1:03.41) by just over a second too, a time that ranks tenth all-time in program history.
Aguilar continued the Bulls’ momentum with a win the 100-yard butterfly and a time of 54.64. The junior fell just shy of her season-best time of 54.54. Freshman Maddy Schnelzer trailed to take third for Buffalo, finishing the event with a season-best time of 56.07.
Forsman closed out the individual events in the pool with a win for Buffalo in the 400-yard individual medley and a time of 4:20.66. The freshman’s time fell just shy of her personal record (4:20.30) that ranks seventh all-time in program history.
The Bulls took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.40 to close out the competition. The Buffalo team of Strine, Sawyer Bosley, Aguilar and Jurgelon was just over two seconds shy of the Bulls’ season-best (1:32:20).
In the diving well, Kwak doubled back to win the one-meter event with a score of 294.45. The senior continued her undefeated season, marking her 15th straight win in individual diving events.
The Buffalo divers took six of the top seven spots in the one-meter. Hanna (2nd, 267.35) and Meuwissen (3rd, 261.15) and Daphne Fox (5th, 237.90) posted top five finishes. Donovan (6th, 233.50) and Meyers (7th, 232.45) rounded out the Buffalo divers.

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo defeated Bowling Green, 196-157, in women’s swimming tri-meet action at the University of Toledo Student Rec Center Pool on Saturday. The victory marked the first win for Head Coach Jacy Dyer in her first season at the helm of her alma mater. The Rockets also competed against Buffalo, falling 206-147.
Rosie Richards, Janne Slegers, Lucie Morris and Audrey Zimmerman took first-place in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.65. The squad edged out second-place Buffalo by .22 seconds and came within .20 seconds of the pool record.
“This team really came together this weekend,” said Dyer. :They created their energy on and off the pool deck and we had a blast. I can’t count all the personal best, season best, and college best times we went this weekend. I am so proud of everyone! Our seniors really finished up their final college dual meet on such a high note. It was awesome getting to celebrate them and their families and the impact they’ve made on this team. I can’t wait to see everyone showcase their hard work they’ve put into this whole season at MACs in a couple weeks. It will truly be a special week.”
Sophomore Leah Evans earned second-place finishes in both the 100 backstroke (55.26) and the 100 butterfly (55.78). Junior Janne Slegers followed up on her impressive outing on Friday night with a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:52.09). Junior Paula Pavillard-Salvador recorded second in the 400 IM event with a final time of 4:33.12.
Combining Friday night’s action with Saturday’s results, Toledo tallied six individual event titles and top-three finishes in 14 total events. The Rockets grabbed first-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay and 200 freestyle relay.
Prior to Saturday’s meet, the Rockets celebrated 10 seniors and one student manager – Madeline Blakely Lindsey Creek, Sydney Conrad, Kassie Gutierrez, Annabelle Haberkorn, Caitlin Heinze, Nejla Karic, Lucie Morris, Molly Pressler, Faith Sill and Alicia Zarzo-Ramirez.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – On a Senior Night spectacle at the Cooper Pool, the BGSU swim & dive team kept it close on Night No. 1 in a MAC tri-meet with Toledo and Buffalo.
The Falcons held a 95-91 advantage over the Rockets and trailed 96-90 against the Bulls. The second half of the meet will take place at Toledo’s Student Recreation Center on Saturday, February 1.
Senior Night festivities took place 20 minutes before the start of the meet, as the squad’s four seniors – Fabiana D’Ambrogio, Abigail Dolliver, Elayna Krupp and Lily Kaiser – were honored for their contributions to the program over the last four years.
With the pool surroundings decked in Bowling Green orange and white streamers and balloons to celebrate the occasion, Elise Snyder kicked off the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 3-meter diving (266.90).
For the first relay event – the 200 medley – the quartet of Emily McNicol, Ava Vial, Grace Bodrock and Samia Becdach finished runner-up with a time of 1:44.24.
BGSU then took second in four of the next five individual events – Becdach in the 100 freestyle (51.53), McNicol in the 200 backstroke (2:03.79), Grace Perlberg in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.90) and Vial (2:04.56).
Additionally, Taylor Devorace (52.62) and D’Ambrogio (2:05.72) placed third in the 100 freestyle and 200 butterfly, respectively.
Devorace was runner-up in the 200 IM (2:06.21), while McNichols was the top Falcon in the 50 freestyle (24.32), placing third.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Becdach, Krupp, Sierra Newton and McNichols capped off the night with a time of 3:30.34, good for third.

The Falcons will head to Toledo’s Student Recreation Center to wrap up the second half of the tri-meet against the Rockets and Bulls. The meet is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.

TOLEDO, Ohio – Finishing the second half of yesterday’s tri-meet with Toledo and Buffalo at the Rockets’ Student Recreation Center pool, the Falcons lost to the hosts, 196-157, and the Bulls, 225-128.
The first 10 events of the meet took place at Cooper Pool on Friday night’s Senior Night, while the final nine were concluded in the Glass City.
BGSU earned two top three finishes from Ava Vial. The graduate student placed third in both the 100 breaststroke (1:04.81) and the 400 IM (4:33.31).
The Falcons notched runner-up in the 400 medley relay courtesy of Emily McNicol, Vial, Grace Bodrock and Samia Becdach’s mark of 3:48.75.
In a close 200 freestyle relay – where the top three times all came within 0.25 seconds of each other – Becdach, Riley McNichols, McNicol and Elayna Krupp came in third (1:34.90).
McNicol (56.08) and Bodrock (57.11) each got fourth in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, respectively.
Abby Toepfer was the Falcons’ top finisher in the 500 freestyle, while Becdach led Bowling Green in the 200 freestyle.
Leading the way for BGSU in the 1-meter dive was Evie Long.

The Falcons will be gearing up for the MAC Championships over the course of the month of February. Divers will compete at the Miami (OH) Classic this upcoming weekend, while the non-MAC participants will take their talents to Ohio State’s Winter Invitational the following weekend.
