25-year-old British Olympian Brodie Williams has decided to hang up his goggles, revealing his decision to retire from competitive swimming.
Per his social media post this week, Williams stated, “It’s probably about time to announce my retirement from competitive swimming…
“This post is more a thank you to everyone who was part of my swimming story, the coaches, staff, and friends who made my journey so special.
“I am extremely proud of what I was able to accomplish and am happy knowing I left everything in the pool (and the bin 🤢). My dream was always to be an Olympian, so I have definitely exceeded my childhood expectations!
I will miss seeing everyone at meets, traveling the world, and doing the sport I love with all of my mates. I’ll even miss sharing a room with @joelitchfield. Don’t be strangers!

Representing England, Somerset native Williams earned a trio of medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, including gold in the men’s 200m back, gold as a member of the men’s 4x100m medley relay and a silver in the 100m backstroke.
Four years prior, Williams helped Great Britain grab gold in the men’s 4x100m medley relay at the 2018 European Championships.
At the 2020 Olympic Games, postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Williams finished in 15th and 21st place in the men’s 200m back and 400m IM, respectively.
