British Swimming is sending a huge portion of their team to the Flanders Speedo Cup in Antwerp, Belgium in a meet that runs January 24th-25th (Friday and Saturday). The 43-swimmer team, a combination of seniors and juniors, will use the meet as a test of their winter training block.
“The Flanders meet will be provide another valuable opportunity in the overall race strategy for our swimmers,” said British Swimming Head Coach Bill Furniss. “These events allow us to practice the process goals that are important for progression this season.
The roster will include 14 out of Britain’s meet-leading 24 medals from last summer’s European Championships. Among them are 50 and 100 breaststroke dual champion, and World Record holder in the shorter race, Adam Peaty; 400/800 dual champion Jazz Carlin; and young swimmers like Molly Renshaw, James Guy, and Jay Lelliott, who are in a race to work into medal position by the 2016 Olympic Games.
Among the notable exceptions from the roster are Ross Murdoch, Roberto Pavoni, Fran Halsall, Lizzie Simmonds, and Aimee Wilmott.
