Blue Team Dominated at Auburn’s Intrasquad Swim Meet

There were some great swims.

And there were some, shall we say, entertaining swims.

Sure the scoreboard said the Blue Team dominated the Orange Team and won Friday’s intra-squad meet 255-209. And a tactical error earlier in the week out of the pool made the final score even more lopsided in favor of the Blue Team (396.5-308.5).

But that wasn’t the point.

With contests that included swimming, trivia and conditioning challenges the Auburn Swimming and Diving teams used the week-long competition to grow as a team as it prepares for the upcoming season.

“This whole week we just stuck together as a team. We are a competitive team and it was a lot of fun to get out and race each other. I think it’s a good start to our season,” senior captain and Blue Team member Kristen Murslack said.

“This really puts into perspective how fun and competitive the dual meets are going to go,” Murslack continued. “I think it’s going to be a good year.”

“Spirit Week does a good job of bringing the team together and setting the tone for the year,” senior and Orange Team member Kyle Darmody said. “The attitude we want to take into every meet – that attacking mentality; never giving up on a race, never giving up on a meet. Some of those things are really brought out in Spirit Week.”

The real racing starts next month with a dual meet at Wisconsin on Oct. 8. The first home dual meet is Oct. 12 against Kentucky.
