High School (Douglas)
Coming out of high school, Koontz was a Four-time Nevada Swimmer of the Year, Two-time state champion in the 100 fly, 2013 state champion in the 50 free, and state record holder in the 200 IM. She was a Two-time Scholastic All-America honoree, and owned school records in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 IM and 100 fly.

2016-2017
As a freshman, Koontz was a member of the 4th place 200 free relay team at the Big Ten Championships. Individually, she finished 17th in the 100 fly (53.35), 20th in the 50 free (22.88) and 24th in the 100 free (50.27).
2017-2018
At the Big Ten Championships, Koontz was part of the 3rd place 800 free relay, 4th place 400 medley relay and 5th place 400 free relay teams. Individually, she placed 4th in the 100 fly (52.28), 7th in the 200 fly (1:56.95) and 19th in the 50 free (22.79).
At the NCAA Championships, Koontz was a member of the 16th place 800 free relay, 19th place 400 free relay and 20th place 200 free relay teams. Individually, she finished 24th in the 100 fly (52.48) and 54th in the 50 free (22.92).
2018-2019
At the Big Ten Champs at her home pool in Bloomington, Koontz was part of the Big Ten champion 200 medley relay, which set a pool record, and was a member of the Big Ten champion 400 medley relay, which set a Big Ten and pool record (3:26.60). She also earned bronze with the 200 free relay, and individually finished 4th in the 100 fly (52.08), 6th in the 200 fly (1:57.54) and 18th in the 200 IM (1:57.94).
At NCAAs, Koontz was a member of the runnerup 400 medley relay, 4th place 200 medley relay, 21st place 400 free relay and 23rd place 200 free relay. Individually she placed 20th in the 100 fly (52.13).
