Peter Holoda

Peter Holoda is a Hungarian freestyler, Olympian and World Championship medalist. In January 2015 he moved to Alabama to swim for Auburn University where he quickly made an impact for the Tigers, accumulating 11 All-American honors though his junior season.

Auburn University

2015 season

Holoda joined Auburn as a mid-year enrolee in January 2015. At his first NCAA championships he earned All-America honors for his prelim swim in the 4×100 yard freestyle relay where he swam the second leg to help qualify the Tigers into the championship final. He also swam the 50 yard freestyle finishing 32nd in 19.68 and 38th in the 100 yard butterfly in 47.12.

2015-2016 season

At his second NCAA meet, the sophomore earned an honorable mention in the 50 yard freestyle after finishing 5th in the consolation final in 19.44. Earlier in the day he swam a personal best time of 19.13 in a swim-off to earn his place in the final. He also garnered All-American honors for his role on Auburn relays. He was on the 4×50, 4×100 and 4×200 yard freestyle relays as well as the 4×50 yard medley relays that finished top-8.

2016-2017

As a junior Holoda swam the 50 and 100 yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships but failed to make the final, finishing 27th and 19th respectively. He earned All-America honors for his efforts on the 4×50 and 4×100 yard freestyle and medley relays.

International Career

Holoda made his international debut at the 2014 European Junior Championships where he won two bronze medals in the 100 meter freestyle and 50 meter butterfly.

2016 Olympic Games

Holoda made his Olympic debut in Rio as a member of Hungary’s 4×100 meter freestyle relay which finished 12th in the heats.

2017 World Championships

Holoda won a bronze medal in front of a home crowd in Budapest at the 2017 World Championships. He joined Dominik Kozma, Nandor Nemeth and Richard Bohus in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay final and finished third behind USA and Brazil in 3:11.99 to knock almost three and a half seconds of the previous national record. Holoda swam the third leg in 48.48.
