Belgium’s Timmers Lowers Own NR in 100 Free in Netanya

2015 EUROPEAN SHORT COURSE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE WINGATE INSTITUTE IN NETANYA, ISRAEL

Pieter Timmers of Belgium won the silver medal in the men’s 100 freestyle at 2015 European Short Course Championships in a new Belgian national record of 46.61. He was the reigning record-holder in the event, having set it with 46.82 in the semi-final of 2014 FINA World Championships in Doha.

Timmers lowered his mark with a half-second improvement on the front half of his race. As noted by Loretta Race in her live recap of the race in Netanya, Timmers’ reaction time (.46) was the fastest in the field, which made a huge difference on the first 50. Below are the comparative splits of his two records:

2015 2014
22.26 22.79
24.35 24.03
46.61 46.82

With this swim, Timmers and gold medalist Marco Orsi (46.05) move up in the world ranking for the current season:
