Tulsa’s Liberty Howell, who is arguably the top recruit out of the state of Oklahoma this year, has chosen to follow her older sister Quincy to Springfield with a commitment to the Missouri State Bears. Liberty is a distance specialist who currently holds several Oklahoma LSC Records in Short Course Meters and has placed as high as 8th at Futures in Austin for the 800 meter freestyle.
Liberty is currently home schooled and swims under Coach David Lynn at Swim Tulsa. She hopes to pursue a degree in Exercise Science during her career with the Bears.
Her current best times would have landed her in three A-finals at the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, meaning she will immediately have an impact on Missouri State’s roster. In last year’s championship it was rival Southern Illinois’ strength in the freestyle events that helped them edge out the Bears by a half-point for the title, making Howell’s top events, the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyles, that much more important in their quest to climb back atop the conference and stay there.
“I really loved the team at Missouri State and I felt at home there. Plus my sister Quincy, is a senior and swims at Missouri State. Even though she will be gone I will carry on the tradition!”
