The Australian squad set to compete at the 2015 World Deaf Swimming Championships has been announced, with a total of seven athletes making the trip to San Antonio, Texas on August 17-22nd.
The Australian Deaf Swimming Team for the 2015 World Deaf Swimming Championships is as follows:
MEN: Craig Morgan, 26 (Bathurst, NSW), Sam Greatorex, 15 (Nunawading, VIC), Ben Robins, 14 (Cherrybrook Carlile, NSW), Alex Kirchner, 12 (Nunawading, VIC)
WOMEN: Teneale Houghton, 23 (Liverpool, NSW), Jade Wellstead, 21 (Peel Aquatic, WA), Hannah Britton, 21 (Ringwood, VIC).
MANAGEMENT: Annabel Bishop (SA/NT) Team Manager, Brent Kirchner (VIC) Assistant Team Manager, Mel Klamt (Nunawading, VIC) Coach.
Mixed relays will be included in the championships for the first time and Australia indeed will be able to field relays, which they have not been able to do since the 2005 Deaflympics. Deaf Sports Australia, Manager Garry West-Bail, indicates this milestone “shows the improvement and depth of the squad over the last 10 years….. “We wish all the swimmers the very best for a successful meet a Championships that will be used as a development trip to progress and prepare for the 2017 Deaflympics.”
