Austin Sectionals Champion Trey Dickey Commits to Texas A&M

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Trey Dickey from the Dallas suburb of Richardson, Texas has verbally committed to Texas A&M University. He is a current junior at Plano East High School and will arrive in College Station in the fall of 2021.

Dickey finished 14th in the 500 yard free and 12th in the 200 yard free at the 2019 Texas 6A (big school) State Championship meet as a sophomore. He is primarily a distance freestyler, especially in the 1500/1650 yard freestyle – which don’t appear on the high school event schedule. In the summer of 2019, he won the Austin Sectionals (Speedo Champions Series) title in the 1500 free in 15:55.04, for example.

He ranks 7th in the 1650 yard free nationally this season among all 17-year old males. His time from December of 15:16.99 is already good enough to have placed him in the top 20 at last year’s SEC Championship meet.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 21.26
  • 100 free – 47.37
  • 200 free – 1:40.47
  • 500 free – 4:28.31
  • 1000 free – 9:14.28
  • 1650 free – 15:16.99
  • 200 IM – 1:54.88
  • 400 IM – 4:00.02

Best Times in Long Course Meters:

  • 200 free – 1:55.99
  • 400 free – 4:06.25
  • 800 free – 8:31.31
  • 1500 free – 15:55.04

The A&M men are growing in national stature in a quick pace, and they have a lot of young talent in their distance freestyle group especially. Last season at the SEC Championships, Luke Stuart placed 13th in the mile as a freshman and Mark Schnippenkoetter placed 17th in the mile as a freshman. Then-sophomore Mark Theall also grabbed All-America honors for the Aggies in the 500 free via a 7th-place finish, which was the team’s first-ever scoring finish in that event at NCAAs. Theall leans toward the 100-200-500 free combo rather than stretching to the mile.

Dickey swims with the City of Richardson Swim Team. That club has produced a lot of division 1 talent, but doesn’t have a huge history of sending swimmers to Texas A&M.
