SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana swimming and diving teams celebrated senior night with a dual against South Dakota State on Friday night in the Midco Aquatic Center. Augustana touched the wall with multiple first-place finishes.

In the Fast Lane
- Bryn Greenwaldt finished in first place on two occasions in Friday’s dual. Greenwaldt touched the wall first in the 50-yard free with a time of 23.01, she followed up her event with a first-place finish in the 100-yard free with a time of 51.40.
- Angelina Chan celebrated her senior night with two podium finishes and a first-place finish in the 100-yard fly with a time of 57.67. Earlier in the night, she garnered a second-place finish in the 50-yard free with a season-best time of 24.39.
- Nesrine Jelliti captured two podium finishes to help propel the Vikings past the Jackrabbots. She touched the wall first in the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:05.08. Earlier in the dual, Jelliti swam to a third-place finish in the 200-yard IM.
- Ella Ward-Zeller captured a time of 59.26 in the 100-yard back for a first-place finish.
- Meesha Montgomery helped the Vikings secure the dual win with a second and third place finish in the 100-yard breast and 50-yard free.
- Peyton Bartsch excelled in the pool Friday night with a first-place finish in the 50-yard free with a time of 21.02. Later in the night, Bartsch captured a time of 52.80 in the 100-yard fly.
- Mason Kauffeld celebrated senior night with two strong finishes in the 100-yard breast and 200-yard IM. Kauffeld finished in third place in the 100-yard breast with a time of 57.80.
- Jackson Dircks touched the wall in third place in the 100-yard back with a time of 52.62.
- Pedro Borin finished in second place in the 100-yard fly with a time of 50.54.
Off the Boards
- David Binsfeld dove to a first-place finish in the 1-meter diving finals and secured nine points for the Vikings.
- Avery Lommel finished in second place in the 1-meter diving finals with a score of 221.85. Kate Robbins finished behind Lommel with a score of 219.75.
- In the women’s 3-meter finals, Lommel secured second place with 240.15 and was followed by Robbins with 216.75.

SIOUX FALLS — Gigi Hioki cruised to two individual titles in the freestyle events and Anna Mei Castro swept the diving events to pace the South Dakota State women’s swimming and diving team in dual action Friday versus Augustana. However, the Vikings came away with a narrow victory, winning by a 125-118.5 score at the Midco Aquatic Center.
SDSU dropped to 2-5 in duals this season.
A sophomore from Liberty Lake, Washington, Hioki won her two individual events by a combined 21 seconds after clocking times of 1 minute, 53.03 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle and 5:10.44 in the 500 freestyle. Jackrabbit teammates Aubrey Douds (1:58.24) and Isabella Gnewuch (5:26.49) were runners-up in the 200 and 500, respectively.
Gnewuch also placed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.49 seconds.
Hioki and Douds also swam the first two legs of SDSU’s winning 400 freestyle relay, teaming with Emma Schultz and Hannah Miller for a time of 3:31.75 in the final event of the evening.
Castro, a sophomore from Barcelona, Spain, claimed the 1-meter diving title with a score of 222.90 points over six dives before earning the sweep with a total of 254.25 points over six dives on the 3-meter board.
Other individual event winners for the Jackrabbits in the swimming events were freshman Kailee Crane in the 200 individual medley, 2:11.40, and sophomore Poppy Mead in the 1,000 freestyle, 10:58.15.

SIOUX FALLS — Kolden Kringen and Sam Johnson were each two-time winners in the freestyle events to lead the South Dakota State men’s swimming and diving team to a 159-75 victory over Augustana in dual action Friday at the Midco Aquatic Center.
Overall, the Jackrabbits claimed 10 of 13 event titles in improving to 3-2 in duals this season.
Kringen, a sophomore from Williston, North Dakota, set the pace in the distance freestyle events with winning times of 4:43.09 in the 500 and 9:55.61 in the 1,000.
A Sioux Falls native, Johnson led SDSU sweeps of the top two spots in both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events. He clocked a winning time of 46.54 seconds in the 100 after claiming the 200 in 1:42.43. Zavier Kranz was second in the 100 (47.35 seconds) and third in the 200 (1:43.49), with Denilson Cyprianos finishing as runner-up in the 200 (1:43.36).
Johnson later anchored the Jackrabbits’ winning 400 freestyle relay, teaming with Liam Murray, Kranz and Cyprianos for a time of 3:07.31. Cyprianos added an individual win of his own in the 100 backstroke, 51.14 seconds, while Aiden Carstensen was second in 51.96 seconds. Carstensen also swam to a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle, 21.50 seconds, with Murray taking third in 21.85 seconds.
Sophomore Cody Vertin led a Jackrabbit sweep of the top three spots in the 200 individual medley, touching the wall first in 1:52.91. Austin Smith placed second (1:54.96) and Bryan Wong was third (1:57.68).
Smith would record an individual victory of his own in the 100 butterfly (:50.50) with freshman Nik Keuser claiming the 100 breaststroke in 56.93 seconds and Vertin placing second in 57.13 seconds.
Sophomore diver Reece Reid opened the night by winning the 3-meter competition with a score of 211.65 points over six dives and added a runner-up performance on the 1-meter board with 194.18 points. Seth Berens notched a second-place finish in the 3-meter event with 197.55 points.
UP NEXT
The Jackrabbit men wrap up the home schedule with a pair of duals next weekend. SDSU is slated to host St. Cloud State at 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, followed by a 10 a.m. dual against South Dakota the next day.
