Army Powers To Decisive Sweep Of Loyola On Senior Day

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated the Loyola Greyhounds on Senior Day Saturday afternoon. Tanner Falls won the 200 free in the 217-81 win to Loyola. On the women’s side Minh Donnell finished first in the 1M and 3M dives.

The Men’s Meet 

Army defeated the Greyhounds with a final score of 217-81. The Black Knights had 14 first place finishes and nine second place finishes; senior Tanner Falls finished first in the 200 free (1:39.46) as well as first in the 100 free (45.09) and 400 free relay (3:00.08). Also, in the 200 free seniors Sean Dwyer (1:40.73) and Jacob Powell (1:40.84) finished second and third respectively.

After Army won the first three events Loyola’s Teddy Cross broke their streak and finished first in the 100 back with a final time of 49.95. Army’s Alex Edwards followed behind, finishing second (50.16).

Owen Harlow finished first in the 50 free with a final time of 19.97 defeating Loyola’s Caleb Kelly. Harlow was also a part of the winning 400 free (3:00.08) and 200 medley relays (1:29.34). In the 200 back, junior Sam Wesley won the 200 back with a time of 1:48.32. Evan Yoo and Kohen Rankin finished in the top two spots in the 200 breast with final times of 1:58.43 and 2:00.80, respectively. Yoo also finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.35. The Black Knights took the top three spots in the 500 free Wes Tate finished first (2:34.30) followed by Brice Barrieault (4:34.43) and Jackson Pogue (4:40.24)

In the 200 fly Jackson Pogue led the way finished with a time of 1:50.08 followed by Nathan Jao (1:50.82) and George Glover (1:51.30). The Black Knights ended the afternoon winning the 400 free relay with a final time of 3:00.08

On the boards, Isaac Newman finished first in the 1M and 3M dives with final scores of 335.33 and 363.15.

The Women’s Meet 

The Army West Point women’s swimming and diving team dominated its home meet Saturday afternoon winning 15 of the 16 events, including sweeps of the top three places in six of those, splashing to a 225-73 victory over Loyola on Senior Day at Crandall Pool.

The Black Knights had five double winners on the day. Melinda Zhang won the 200 free (1:52.01), led a sweep in the 200 fly touching first in 2:04.63, along with placing second in the 200 IM (2:06.12).

Also doubling were Layne Peterson in the backstroke events, Meghan Cole, 50 free and 100 butterfly, Aurelie Migualt in the breast, along with diver Minh Donnell.

Peterson doubled in the 100 back, claiming the 100 with her time of 56.51, and later returned to take the longer 200 (2:00.15). Cole beat teammate Clara Williams for first place honors in the 50 free (23.71) and later went 56.95 to win the 100 butterfly.

Migault led a sweep in the 200 breast posting a time of 2:18.41 and also touched first in the shorter 100 (1:03.75). Donnell led an Army sweep on both boards, compiling 284.03 points on the low board, and winning the three-meter with a 302.03 composite.

Rounding out the rest of Army’s winners were Autumn Baumgartner, 100 free (52.81), Molly Webber, 500 free (4:59.31), Catriona Gilmore, 200 IM (2:05.49) and Bridget O’Shaughnessy, 1000 free (10:41.57).

The Black Knights won the final 400 free relay. Cole, Weber, Baumgartner and Kira Macmullan rounded out that foursome behind a winning time of 3:32.49.

What’s Next 
Army, closing out its dual slate (5-4), heads to Boston, Mass., to compete in the Boston Winter Open Friday and Saturday.

West Point, NY — The Loyola Maryland men’s and women’s swimming and diving team traveled up to West Point to face Army on Saturday. Patrick Hayburn picked up an individual win in the 100 Yard Butterfly (49.76) and Teddy Cross picked up a win in the 100 Yard Backstroke (49.95).

The women’s 200 Yard Medley Relay team also picked up a win with a time of 1:45.05.
