too optimistic about the Australian golds
It seems that the predictions are aimed at a total of 10 gold for Australia and about 11/12 for the United States, I bet the difference will be greater. Australia will not go beyond 6/7 golds.
Hi all,
Before every Olympics I am making my own medal table (for the whole Olympics, not just for swimming). It started 8 years ago because I was annoyed by the way Gracenote, NBC and others make up their predicted medal table. Of course it is very time consuming to make extended predictions for all 329 events. But also, as a casual swimming enthusiast that only watches Olympics, Worlds and Europeans (and Commonwealth Games), my own estimates are between guesstimates and accurate estimates.
So my question is: is there someone over here who is prepared to help me out with my swimming predictions :)?
Yes
That would be great! How can I contact you?
Instagram: swimswimadm
I would trust Gracenote rather than anyone on here lol
If someone agrees to assist, ask how they did in previous international ‘pick-ems’ on here 😉
idk gracenote picks summer to miss podium in the 4 free AND 2 im
Gracenote picks one athlete to win gold (mainly based on results of past major competitions), and two others to win medals. While there can be events where a dozen athletes have a decent chance to win gold.

It’s gonna be a bit like the NBC medal tally in here lol
Let’s post the Ledecky events as early as possible – to make sure US is at the top of the table from the start 😉
Ok let’s make these predictions now and see how they end up. Including mostly safe bets with a few dark horses.

Popovici taking away 100 free is not gonna happen but he most likely clinches 200 free.
China gets a slightly upper hand, relative to the US, in men’s 400 medley relay .
Zhang’s becoming a gold medalist in 200 fly is of slim chance, the gold may go to Canada.
I have faith in Popovici. But yea it does seem he and Pan are the favourites currently.
USA men have never lost the medley relay at the Olympics. On paper China is slightly in front but I’m going with history.
Zhang was probably my least confident pick. But she nailed the 200 in Tokyo and the rest of the women around that top spot have been a little up and down
Like your candor and appreciate your preference in Popovici ( nothing different from mine in Pan)
History is meant to be written or re-written by winners, so “never” may be re-written to “ever”.
Buy your comments on Zhang and it’s a good point you made that Zhang would have ampler time before swimming 200 fly than her competitors.
How’s McIntosh been up and down in the 200 fly?
I thought she was slower at worlds than trials last year but I got confused: I was instead thinking about how her winning time wasn’t the fastest of the year.
She hasn’t really been up and down but also her times aren’t strong enough for me to consider her a solid favourite at this point
you’re an idiot if you think McIntosh isnt going to win the 200 Fly and CAN is only going to get two medals.
I predicted Canada to get 2 golds, not 2 medals. McIntosh quite possibly could win the 200 fly but she has a slower PB than Smith and Zhang. Zhang will have 2 full days of rest before the 200 fly starts while McIntosh and Smith have busier schedules that are closer to the 200 fly.

I said Smith and Zhang have faster PBs. The link you sent is for season best, not PB.
