Alexander Zettle of Lakeside and Ford Blaylock of RACE each crack four minutes to finish 1-2, respectively, in the 400 free at the Austin Futures tonight.
Zettle touched first at 3:57.71, almost a full second under the U.S. Open (and old Olympic Trials) cut, while Blaylock was 2nd in 3:59.28. Third went to another 16-year-old, Lake Forest Swim Club’s Levy Nathan (4:00.69) who came in with a 4:07.04. Nathan just misses making the 15-16 all time top 100, though Zettle now sits at 50th and Blaylock 96th.
Kara Eisenmann of Lakeside had a nice drop in the 200 fly, swimming a 2:13.92 to win for a best time and just her 2nd time under 2:16. In the men’s race, 16-year-old Frank Niziolek of St. Charles Swim Team posted a 2:03.54 for the win there, nearly hitting a lifetime best.
15-year-old Jack Dolan earned a best time to win the 50 free, swimming a 23.39 that jumps him from 36th to 29th all-time in the 15-16 rankings. On the women’s side Amanda Armstrong of RACE swam a 26.35 to eke out the win over Rockwood’s Anna Miller (26.37).
Tristen Disibio, out of Lakeside, swam a U.S. Open cut in the 200 breast (2:18.38) for the win, while Longhorn Aquatics’ Victoria Edwards took almost five seconds off from prelims for a U.S. Open cut in the 400 free (4:19.42).
Other winners:
- Lakeside’s Lauren Savoy, 17, was 2:36.06 to win the women’s 200 breast.
- Laine Reed was 1:03.70 to win the women’s 100 back, while the men’s race went to Dubuque’s John Colin in 57.57, defeating World Junior record holder in the 400 IM, Sean Grieshop of Nitro. Grieshop was 57.78 for a lifetime best.
