KOSUKE HAGINO SNAGS FIRST JAPANESE GOLD IN 400m IM

Kosuke Hagino managed to take home the first swimming gold of the Rio Olympic Games with an Asian record of 4:06.05 in the final of the 400m IM. He held off advances from American Chase Kalisz to secure the win. The victory makes him the first Japanese man to win gold in the 400m IM. Prior to tonight, the Japanese had only won one 400m IM medal ever, his bronze from 2012.

SJOSTROM DOWNS OLYMPIC RECORD IN 100 FLY

Sarah Sjostrom took down American rival Dana Vollmer’s 55.98 American record tonight with a 55.84 performance that makes her the undeniable favorite for tomorrow’s final. Sjostrom came within two tenths of a second of her own world record.

MACK HORTON BEATS SUN YANG, CALLS HIM OUT AGAIN FOR DOPING

Australian Mack Horton took down 2012 Olympic champion Sun Yang in the 400m freestyle in order to win his first Olympic gold in 3:41.55. After the race, Horton had some choice words stating it was “definitely a win for the good guys.” He went on to say to Australia’s channel seven “Don’t know if it was a rivalry between me and him, just me and an athlete who has tested positive I guess.”

KATINKA HOSSZU ANNIHILATES YE SHIWEN’S 400m IM WORLD RECORD

Katinka Hosszu took down what was once thought to be an unbeatable world record en route to her first Olympic medal, a gold in world record timing. Hosszu was over five-seconds under world record pace at the 300-meter mark, clocking in a 4:26.26 at the final touch to finish over two-seconds under Ye Shiwen’s record from 2012.

ADAM PEATY DOES IT AGAIN

Great Britain’s Adam Peaty rocked a very fast 57.62 to put up the second fastest 100m breaststroke in history and take the top seed heading into his first Olympic final. Peaty was just seven one-hundredths slower than the world record he set this morning, and almost a second and a half faster than second place finalist Cody Miller

AUSSIES BEAT YANKS FOR NEW WORLD RECORD IN 4×100 FREE RELAY

The Australian women bettered their own world record in the 4x100m freestyle to take home the first Olympic relay gold of these games. The Aussies were a 3:30.65 to win by over a second, smash their own record, and take down the Americans.
