Nathan Adrian, the 100 meter freestyle Olympic Games defending champion, stays in his own lane on the ramp up to the Olympics. That’s Adrian’s plan. That’s always been his plan.
With two Olympics under his belt, don’t count on this 4-time Olympic medalist to get rattled by Caeleb Dressel‘s 18.2 American and U.S. Open Record in the 50 yard freestyle. Adrian’s comment in the video above — “Everyone’s at different points in their training” — could not be more true.
Dressel faces-off with Adrian at the Pro Swim Series in Orlando, but Dressel’s rested from SECs with NCAAs on the horizon. Adrian’s banking hard work, with another intense altitude training cycle at the Olympic Training Center starting right after the event.
What are your predictions for Dressel vs Adrian in the 50 freestyle at the Orlando Pro Swim, other Pro Swim Series events, and the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials?

I’m glad I’m not the only one who just learned about his surgery by watching GMM. Tried to Google it but nothing came up. Anyone have any info?
I would be interested in finding out more about the injury/surgery that Nathan had last season, which Mel alluded to in this GMM. Does anybody have any info. about it?
Just read through these…. I think Adrian and Dressel will both go under 21.3… I know the 50 is weird at US Trials, and can be a slow event, but I think these two elites are ready to pop solid swims when it counts. Adrian’s’ so consistent and Dressel’s making breakthroughs.
U are right Mel – its how i feel for these 2 incredible studs of swimming . BOBO hasn’t commented yet – thats weird !! LOL
Yeah….we need to hear for BOBO for sure!
It is hard to see Adrian not improve since his Gold Medal performance in 2012. I believe and hope this year all his hard work will deliver. Adrian will go 21.4 and 47.8 at Trials, and follow that with a 21.2 and 47.4 at Rio. He will medal individually, but do not believe any of them will be gold. Good luck to him though!
I would really like to see Josh Schneider get a spot for the 50
Honestly, I think he may make the team in the 100. He’s got a good shot at the relay. The individual 100 will be tougher, but after Adrian no one has really asserted them-self yet. For all I know, he could get it.
I don’t think Dressel will makes as good a transition to LCM. I’m not saying he is going to be slow, but I could see another sprinter beating him.
I see Adrian closer to a 21.5 and Dressel around 21.8. So I could see room for Ervin, Grevers, Thompson, Jones, etc to split the difference.
You do know dressel is already 21.53 in long course from 2015 US nationals, so we already know dressel is good in long course in at least the 50 free.
Adrian goes a 21.5 at Trials for the top spot on the team. At Rio he picks up silver with 21.4, maybe a 21.3. I see Dressel picking up a 21.48 for bronze.
With Fratus on top of his game and if Cielo return to his old form a 21,40 high will be locked out of medal, there is a high chance something on the lines of 21,30 mid to medal
He is one among the only guys who can replicate fantastic racing on the 50 and 100 + help seriously 2 of the Us relays .
I predict gently , humbly for Adrian :
At O. Trials on the 50 free : 21.64 – On 100 free : 47.97
At Rio : he makes finals on both free sprint races . On the 50 free , he comes either 1st or second with a time of 21.20 .
On the 100 free , he might well come first , but can end up 4th due to the presence of other solid sprinters … everything is possible .
100 free time in the final : 47,54… Read more »
