3x WAC Runner-Up Ogi Maric Transfers from UNLV to Arizona After One Season

Freestyler/backstroker Ogi Maric is transferring from UNLV to Arizona for next season. Maric is a Croatian national, and he spent just his freshman campaign with the Rebels.

TOP TIMES

  • 50 Free – 20.39
  • 100 Free – 43.69
  • 200 Free – 1:34.28
  • 50 Back – 22.21
  • 100 Back – 47.84
  • 200 Back – 1:41.87
  • 200 IM – 1:46.72

Maric had a very strong debut at the 2020 Western Athletic Conference Championships, where he finished as the runner-up in all three of his individual events. He took second in the 200 IM (1:46.72), 200 free (1:34.28) and 200 back (1:41.87). He also led off UNLV’s WAC title-winning 800 free relay (1:34.84) and led off their second-place 400 free relay in 43.69.

On Arizona’s top times list last season, Maric would’ve been #2 in the 200 back, tied for #3 in the 100 free and #4 in the 100 free. As the Wildcats just graduated their top backstroker, Thomas Anderson, Maric might take over immediately as their top backstroker. He should also figure onto, at the very least, their 800 free relay.

Last season, Maric would’ve made Pac-12 A-finals in the 200 free and 200 back, and the B-final in the 200 IM. He was a few tenths from making the 200 free and 200 back cutoffs for the 2020 NCAA Championships.

Maric will overlap for two seasons with Daniel Namir, Arizona’s #1 200 freestyler last year, and Marin Ercegovic, their top sprinter. Ercegovic is also Croatian.
