As reported in July, Glasgow, Scotland was announced as the host for the 2016 British Swimming Championships, which will serve as the nation’s Olympic qualifying meet next spring.  The trials are set to take place April 12-17th at the Tollcross International Swimming Center, the host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The schedule for those trials was just released this week, revealing the six-day format of the meet. Whereas 2015’s trials were spread over 5 days, the six-day layout allows the events to be further sprinkled across the days, with fewer events per session.  Additionally, with the meet acting as trials, the non-Olympic events have been removed from the schedule, including the women’s 1500m freestyle and men’s 800m freestyle, which were each contested this spring.

If the 2014 British Championships were any indication of what’s to come, the world may be in store for further fireworks from the British crew once an Olympic roster berth is on the line.  This year’s edition of the meet saw Adam Peaty clock a new world record in the men’s 100m breaststroke, blasting a 57.92 to stake his claim as the man to beat headed into Rio.

On-the-rise James Guy earned wins in both the 200m and 400m freestyles at this year’s British Championships, foreshadowing his World Championships gold and silver in each respective event in Kazan.  He will be looking to continue his successful run, with the 400m freestyle as the very first event of next year’s trials, while the 200m free is on the very last day of the competition in Glasgow.
