Indian River State College all-but-locked-up their 42nd-consecutive men’s and 35th-consecutive women’s NJCAA titles on Friday, the penultimate day of the 2016 championships in their home pool.
IRSC won all but one race for the third-straight day, as Monroe Community College’s Tamara Miller continued to be the lone dissenter to an otherwise-perfect meet for the host team.
After winning the 200 and 1000 freestyles earlier in the meet, Miller picked up another victory in the 500 free, winning in 4:56.44.

Craig Emslie, who next year will move to the NCAA and the North Carolina Tar Heels, swam a new lifetime best, and NJCAA Record, in the 100 breaststroke with a 52.57 – almost three seconds clear of anyone else this field, and part of a 1-2-3-4-5 finish for IRSC.
The other two individual records came as a part of the new sprint schedule at this year’s meet. Indian River’s Tayla Lovemore won the women’s 100 IM in a new record of 56.43 – five seconds faster than her cruised prelims swim.
One event later, her teammate Jairo Emer won the men’s 100 IM in 50.54, another new record.
The day closed as it began, with another Indian River record. The team of Emslie (1:36.03), Jason van der Touw (1:38.51), John Fauteux (1:38.33), and Cameron Newton (1:38.97) combined for a 6:31.84 – just sneaking under the 6:31.90 done by last year’s IRSC 800 free relay, with only Emslie as a carry-over.
