14-Year Old Lewis Burras Breaks British Age Record in Dubai

14-year old Lewis Burras from Hamilton Aquatics, a team made up primarily of ex-pats in the UAE, has broken the British Age Record in the 50 long course meter freestyle on Friday morning.

Burras swam a 24.30 on Saturday morning at the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex. That breaks the National Record for 14-year olds of 24.35 done by Scottish swimmer Suleman Butt in 2012.

So far at this meet, Burras also won the boys’ 400 free in 4:10 and was a 59.5 in the 100 long course meter fly, 52.9 in the 100 free, and 26.6 in the 50 fly.

In fact, the 50m (LC) freestyle record for 14YO Boys had already been beaten by Henry Rennolls of White Oak SC. Henry swam 24.15 on 22 Nov. 2014 in the London Aquatic Centre. The meet was the National Finals of the ESSA Team Championships. This time has now been ratified as the new British Record. Henry’s DoB is 3/7/00, so he still had 6 months to improve this record. His SC time for 50 free is 23.85 sec, also an All-Time-Best for British 14 year old.
