No swimmers nominated for Laureus Sportsman/Sportswoman of the Year Awards

Though several big swimming names were under consideration, none made the cut as a nominee for the 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards highest honors of Sportsman or Sportswoman of the Year.

In late January, it appeared Chad le Clos, Ning Zetao and Mireia Belmonte were all potential nominees from the aquatic discipline. But none of the three made it into the six names anounced as nominees in each gender.

Though a male swimmer has never won Sportsman of the Year, American Missy Franklin was last year’s Sportswoman of the Year, the first time a swimmer had won the prestigious award.
