Morgan Hill, a senior at Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, Maryland, has verbally committed to the University of Virginia Cavaliers for 2015-16. Hill is the reigning Maryland Public Schools 4A3A State Champion in the 50 free (23.75) and 100 free (51.05); she also anchored (49.51) Sherwood’s state-champion 400 free relay and swam fly (25.17) on their second-place medley relay.
Hill swims with Coach Sue Chen at Nation’s Capital Swim Club, where she is a 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier in the 50m free. Hill’s top times include:
SCY | LCM | |
50 free | 22.70 | 25.75* |
100 free | 49.42 | 56.32 |
200 free | 1:48.80 | 2:04.80 |
50 fly | 25.59 | 31.05 |
100 fly | 56.13 | 1:03.73 |
*Olympic Trials cut
Hill will join a young Virginia sprint group that is on the rise. The ACC-Champion Cavaliers placed one up (Ellen Thomas, now a junior), one mid (Caitlin Cooper, sophomore), and one down (Shannon Rauth, junior) in the finals of both the 50 and 100 freestyles at the 2015 conference meet, and they will all still be there in the fall of 2016 when Hill arrives. Hill will fit nicely into this group; her best times would have made the B final with Cooper in both the 50 and 100 at ACCs last February, and her 200 free would have been on the B/C-final bubble. Moreover, she has a good shot of earning a spot on the Cavaliers’ 200/400/800 free relays which finished third, second, and first, respectively, at conference.
