Yet another swim star who has been named to the list of those expected at the revived 2016 Euro Meet in Luxembourg: Today the event organizers announced that Olympic Champion Ruta Meilutyte (Lithuania) will enter her first competition after she fractured her elbow during a bike accident in September 2015. She had surgery and metal plate was placed into her arm – the plate was removed in December and now she is back into normal training and focusing on preparations the Olympic Games where she wants to defend her 2012 gold medal in the 100m breaststroke. The Euro Meet which will take place in Luxembourg from January 29th to 31st will be her first opportunity to gain reignite her racing and test her newly-healed joint. The 18-year-old won the silver medal at the 2015 World Championships (LC) in Kazan and is the current world record holder in the 100 m breaststroke – both long and short course (tied with Alia Atkinson in SC).
Meilutyte will share the pool in Luxembourg with some of the most successful European swimmers over the last years like World Champion Katinka Hosszu (Hungary), Mireia Belmonte (Spain) and Hannah Miley (Great Britain). Some prominent male swimmers are also expected in Luxembourg: World champions Marco Koch (Germany), Laszlo Cseh (Hungary) and European champion Velimir Stjepanovic who is on a comeback train as well after a 2015 with mixed results for him.
The Euro Meet takes place in the beautiful aquatic centre “d’Coque” at Luxembourg-Kirchberg. The facility has a 50 m, 10-lane competition pool and also a 50 m training pool as well as a 25 m warm-up pool. Luxembourg is a small country in western Europe, it is bordered by Belgium, Germany and France and it is one of the smallest sovereign states in Europe. Nonetheless the city of Luxembourg, which is the country’s capital, is the seat of several institutions and agencies of the European Nation and Luxembourg is the largest private banking centre in the eurozone.

Let’s hope she can return to 2013 form. She really dropped of a cliff since 2014, seeing her defend would be great.

Maybe that terminalolgy was to harsh, but she is clearly not in the same shape she was in when she won in London or set the world record, I hope she can get back to that form.
