Winter Juniors Qualifier Chloe Hickman Hands Commitment To West Virginia (2023)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Chloe Hickman has announced her commitment to swim and study at West Virginia University this upcoming fall. Hickman is a native of Villa Park, California, where she attends Foothill High School. She also trains and competes year-round with the Aquazot Swim Club, located in Irvine.

Hickman is primarily an IM specialist, as she owns a Winter Juniors qualifying time in the 400 IM. She also swims breaststroke and fly, with Futures cuts in the 200 breast, 200 fly, and 200 IM.

Hickman most recently raced at the CIF-SS Division I Championships, where she set a personal best time of 57.37 in the 100 fly to place 21st overall. She also earned a 4th place finish in the 200 IM, swimming a season best time of 2:04.36.

Earlier in the spring she competed at the Speedo Sectionals in Carlsbad, where she recorded a best time of 4:21.50 in prelims. She was slightly slower in finals, and ended up 9th overall (4:23.65). Her 400 IM has seen a tremendous improvement over the course of the last season, as she’s dropped nearly six seconds from 2022.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 breast – 1:06.21
  • 200 breast – 2:21.03
  • 100 fly – 57.37
  • 200 fly – 2:04.16
  • 200 IM – 2:03.57
  • 400 IM – 4:21.50

At the Big-12 Championships, West Virginia finished 4th out of 5 teams, as they trailed TCU by 16 points. Their lone event winner was senior Jacqueline McCutchan, who won the 100 backstroke in 54.14.

Hickman is projected to be an A-finalist at Big-12s, as her current best time in the 400 IM would have qualified in 6th for the A-final at this year’s meet. Sophomore Morgan Burton was the only swimmer from West Virginia to advance to the championship final this year, where she finished 4th in a best time of 4:21.35.

Joining Hickman in the Mountaineer’s incoming class this fall is Makenna Wozny, Delaney Cox, and Alyssa Martel. Cox also swims IM events, and owns best times of 2:08.31 and 4:25.85 in the 200 and 400 IM.
