Watch: Ledecky Blasts a 15:44 1500 Free at U.S. Open (Day 4 Race Videos)

2022 U.S. OPEN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Saturday Finals Heat Sheets

The final day of the 2022 U.S. Open featured world record holder Katie Ledecky crushing the 1500 free final in 15:44.13, her 22nd-fastest time ever in the event. In the men’s event, Florida’s Alfonso Mestre out-touched Pedro Farias of Brazil to touch the wall first with a new lifetime best time.

Regan Smith was the top seed going into the 200 back and 200 fly; she handily defended her spot in both. Smith won the 200 back with the 19th-fastest time in history (2:05.28) which was a U.S. Open Meet record and then touched the wall first in the 200 fly just five events later. She nearly broke the U.S. Open Meet record in her second event as well.

CUY’s Daniel Diehl, who has been on a 17-18 National Age Group record rampage in the 100 backstroke despite just having turned 17 in October, won the 200 back with the 5th all-time fastest time in the 17-18 age group (1:56.41). He has just under two years left in this age group and is only 1.26 off seven-time Olympic medalist Aaron Peirsol‘s NAG record from 2002.

There were tight sprint showdowns on both the men’s and women’s side of the 100 free with Louisville Gabi Albiero out-touching Beata Nelson by .04 for first place and Louisville’s Andrej Barna out-touching Florida’s Josh Liendo by .52 for first.

Another exciting race was the men’s 200 breast where Florida’s Aleksas Savickas pulled an upset on two-time Olympian Chase Kalisz and out-touched him by .42 to win the event. The last individual race was the men’s 200 fly where the Louisville duo of Nicolas Albiero and Zach Harting went 1-2, separated by just .74.
